Panic and anxiety disorder

In this article, we will look at panic and anxiety disorder and how to know if you have one.

Panic and anxiety problems are two separate things although they are interrelated. It is very much a possibility that a person suffers from one of them and one might give rise to the other so it can be said that panic and anxiety issues go hand in hand.

Anxiety is completely normal and human response which occurs when a person faces a situation that results in making him apprehensive. Everyone feels anxiety at some point in their lives and it is a completely normal thing to feel that way. Anxiety can occur from situations like speaking in public, getting married, studying from exams and so on. All these along with many others may result in a person feeling anxious.

As mentioned earlier, anxiety & panic disorder are although different things, but are connected. When anxiety starts happening untimely and for no apparent reason, this is when it becomes anxiety disorder. Sometimes, a person might feel fearful or anxious without any reason and in an irrational way. It is a real problem if it starts happening regularly.  A person who starts to be anxious all the time may then develop a panic disorder. The stress that he is under may lead him to suffer from panic attack disorder and this creates further anxiety and increase the likelihood of any further attacks.

Not everyone who suffers from anxiety disorder go on to be patients of panic attack disorder. On the other hand, it can also be the case that panic attacks start to hit suddenly without any former indications of at panic attack disorder. It can happen out of the blue or during a period of high stress.

The major problem of panic attacks is that they are atrociously dreadful and many times the intense fear of having an attack again is enough to be the root cause of another attack of panic. This fear goes on and so do the attacks which ultimately lead to the syndrome of panic attack disorder and you come to a situation where panic attacks become a baggage of your life.

People who go through panic and anxiety problems have to undergo intense pressure and stress which can be exceeding thorny. But the good news is that there is always help available and all they have to do is a little effort to treat panic and anxiety disorder.

Medication for panic attacks

Medication for panic attacks is readily available as there seem to be more companies involved in the manufacture of meds for panic attacks than the sufferers. But whether the medication for panic disorder that are so easily available are any good and do they actually cure the disease or just treat its symptoms is still open debate. Every user has its own opinion on the medication for anxiety attacks that are available in the market.

Is medication for panic and anxiety problems any good? Well the answer is no, although there would be a lot of people who would disagree with this answer. According to me, all these drugs do is suppress the symptoms of this disease that overcome the possibility of anxiety strikes. Even this is not at all bad because even the suppression is better than experiencing the horrific attack of panic and for anyone who has ever been a victim to panic attacks would second that. The medications work by altering the chemical balance of our brain that helps in curtailing certain cell receptors.

Medications can although stop panic attacks but they do not offer a long term solution and are not something that you would be wanting to intake for long period of time. These medications come with a lot of baggage in the form of an endless list of side effects you can succumb to. These side effects many a times tend to be far more complicated and severe than the symptom they treat and apart from that, as our bodies continue to consume the drugs; their effectiveness is seriously hampered over the course of time. Also one more important thing that you must know is that the as and when the doctor decides that you have been on medication of drugs for far too long, then he would want to bring you off them but he cannot do this all of a sudden. He would do this overtime. By this point in time, the person who was using the medication for panic attacks would have become dependent or addicted should I say, to those drugs and the thought alone of having to cope panic attacks without them adds to the reasons of becoming anxious and succumbing to an attack. It can ultimately leave you in far worse condition then you were before indulging yourself in the medication.

Hence, in my personal opinion, it is better that you stay away from drugs and look for more natural ways to treating and overcoming panic attacks.
